History of V. Belliure Cons. Navales. S.L.

In 1953, at 19 years old, Vicente Belliure established his own shipyard in Calpe, near Alicante, Spain. This was a family business based on repairing and rebuilding professional fishing boats.

In 1956 he designed and built the ‘La Union’ and ‘Fenix’ fishing boats which featured the six-point star on the bow – the origin of the Belliure branding. During the 50’s and 60’s he designed and built 160 wooden fishing boats at Calpe from 20 to 38 metres in length.

The early 70’s saw the launch of the Peter Ibold designed Endurance 35 and thereafter a number of other yachts into the mid 80’s However in 1986 a crisis in the company saw a parting of the ways and Vicente Belliure left his brothers, retaining the Belliure name and molds for the Endurance 35 and Belliure 30. He moved to nearby Port Luis Campomanes at Altea. The company initially focused on repairs and selling the Endurance and Belliure yachts.

In 1990 Vicente Belliure was able to buy back the Calpe shipyard and the company entered a different phase of its evolution. In 1996 the last Belliure sailing yacht, the 42, was launched and the emphasis moved in 1999 to motor yachts with the successful launch of the Belliure 48 MY at the Cannes Boatshow. Finally, in 2001 the Belliure 40 MY was launched at the Düsseldorf boatshow.

The proven ability of Vicente Belliure as both a designer and builder of high quality sailing and motor yachts has been the basis for the success of the company over the past 50 years. His children are following in his footsteps and in a new century the company is expanding its premises to accommodate the plans to build larger motor yachts in the Belliure range.
